The Boomer List

2014 marked an important shift in American culture, as the last of the baby boom generation turned 50. To mark this momentous occasion, AARP partnered with filmmaker and photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders to present The Boomer List, a comprehensive look at 19 iconic boomers — one born each year of the baby boom from 1946 to 1964.

The book premiered in conjunction with an American Masters documentary film on PBS and a multi-year touring exhibition of Greenfield-Sanders’ 19 portraits. (This show opened on Sept. 26, 2014, at Washington, D.C.’s Newseum,)

This coffee table book highlights newsworthy people whose lives define the boomer generation and offer a revealing perspective on the events and stories that continue to shape our culture today. Intimate interviews and portraits focus on exceptional achievement, struggle and identity, telling the story of extraordinary Americans and the history they lived through and often created. Subjects illuminate the important movements and changes that shaped the world during the baby boom years, covering topics such as the environment; arts and entertainment; science; civil, LGBT and women’s rights; law; politics; public service; sports; the military and technology.
